How callus are caused on feet

Think of a callus as your foots way of creating protective armor against friction and pressure. Calluses form when the skin on your feet experiences repeated rubbing or pressure, causing the outer layer of skin to thicken as a defense mechanism.

Here are some common culprits behind callus formation.

  1. Improper footwear: shoes that are too tight, too lose or lack proper support can create friction points that lead to calluses.

  2. Walking or running style: an unusual gait or the way you distribute weight while walking can put extra pressure on certain areas of your feet.

  3. Surface conditions: walking barefoot on hard surfaces can increase the likelihood of developing calluses.

  4. Certain activities: sports or jobs that require prolonged standing or repetitive foot movements can also contribute to calluses formation.

  5. Foot deformities: conditions like bunions or hammertoe can alter the way pressure is applied to the foot, leading to calluses.

To manage calluses, regular exfoliation, moisturizing and wearing well-fitted shoes can help maintain smooth healthy skin. If calluses become painful and bothersome, a wise step is to book an appointment.
